After the start in 1990 the Childrenīs
Song Festival has rapidly and vividly become a very significant
happening specially leaning on the musical culture of children. This
fast development is explainable due to the fact that it is the only
event which is emphasizing children to express their special grades of
talent on the terms of their own. Even though based on competitions the
event very persistently allows the child to act like a child during
every minute of her performance! Only childrenīs songs are acceptable
in the singing competitions (for the children at the most twelve years
old). Also a composal competition is arranged annually in purpose to
find new songs for children to sing and listen. The top songs are annually published on a
CD. The event takes place annually in June and
is coloured by folk dancing childgroups, childchoirs from different
countries, musical interactive shows, parades and concerts etc. All the participating countries are also
invited to have a representant in the international Nightingale-song
contest. Occasionally also seminars are arranged
during the festival days for those interested and responsible for the
musical education of children in purpose to bring out new ideas and to
widen and improve the knowledge of modern developments. The event has had visitors and participants
from Bulgaria, Czech Republic,
Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Germany,
Great Britain, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvija, Lithuania,
Poland, Russia, Turkey, Slovakia, Sweden and Ukraine. The organizer of the event is an
association, Salo - Lasten Laulukaupunki ra, in which the members are
the city of Salo, surrounding counties, local enterprises and private
persons. The Patron of the event is Mrs Eeva Ahtisaari.
